"Even when a person has an abundance his life does not result from the things he possesses" (Luke 12:15)

In today's world, advertisers are trying to convince the consumers that our desires in life like better health, security, relief from stress, and closer relationships can be achieved by making the right purchases. But is this really true? There is nothing wrong in wanting a better life as long as we can afford to control our spending. But the truth is, the more possessions that we have, the lesser our quality of life. A person who has a lot of debt need to spend more time at work, often has no other options left but to take an overtime, to earn more and pay his debt. The above quote from the bible is very true guys. It's not the possessions that can really make us happy in life.

"A mere lover of silver will not be satisfied with silver." (Ecclesiastes 5:10)

People are buying things to gain status and prestige in this society. This is what the adviertisers are promising to consumers, thus convincing them to buy the things which they really don't need in life. The most common reason why we buy things especially expensive things, to compete with friends, neighbors, coworkers and relatives. Advertisers often make the consumers feel that only successful people can have nice gadgets, products, and other possessions in life. But what is the truth behind this? Our self worth is not defined by comparing ourselves from what other people's success or possession. We will only end chasing the winds forever and the cycle never ends. When one level of aspiration or goal is achieved, the next thing we do is to take the next level. In short, it becomes a never ending process of achieving things.

"Do not let your adornment be...the putting on gold of ornaments or the wearing of outer garments, but let it be the secret person of the heart." (1 Peter 3:3,4)

Have you heard this line from a commercial on television or internet - "define your identity"? Marketers are trying to say that if we buy the right brand, we can adopt the right identity. Often, people buy expensive things to define who they are or the kind of personality they would like to be. For example, a person may buy branded items to define his own style and identity. The truth about this is, no product can define our identity or can change who we really are.

I hope you enjoy the above tips which were quoted from a very full of knowledge book, the bible. If we apply those tips above, we can be sure that we can be free from debts.
